Privacy policy

How we handle your school emails, your children's details and your account — in plain words.

What Nudge Nest does with your data

Nudge Nest reads the school emails you connect it to, picks out the dates, payments and reminders inside them, and shows them to you in one calm place. That is the whole story. Your emails are never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never used to train AI models. We have no interest in anything else that is in your inbox.

Who we are

Nudge Nest is a UK service for parents, available at nudgenest.co.uk. For any privacy question, request or concern, contact us at hello@nudgenest.co.uk. We aim to reply within a few days.

What we collect

Your account

Your email address and password, held so you can sign in. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and name from Google.

Your children

The details you choose to add: a child's first name, year group or class, school, and a colour you pick for them. This exists so reminders land in the right place. You type it in yourself, and a first name is all we ask for.

Your school emails

When you connect a Gmail or Outlook account, you grant us permission to read email from it. We only read messages from the senders and domains you list in Settings as school contacts. Each matching message is read once, its useful dates and details are extracted, and the results are stored as your nudges. We do not mirror your mailbox — we keep only the processed school messages, plus enough of each one to show you the original email inside the app.

Attachments and newsletters

Schools often put the important dates in a PDF or a linked newsletter page. These are read at scan time so we can find the same things you would. Text taken from a newsletter link is processed for extraction and is not kept as a copy of the whole document.

Your settings

Term dates, school sender addresses, calendar links and the other choices you make in Settings.

How your emails are processed

To pull dates out of newsletters, timetables and attachment text, the content of school messages is sent to an AI service that works for us behind the scenes. It receives only the school messages being scanned — never your whole mailbox, never other families' data — and it does not keep or learn from what it reads. The results (a date, an amount, a reminder title) are stored in your account.

Reading your Gmail or Outlook account uses the access you grant when you connect it, and it can be revoked at any time — either in Settings by disconnecting the account, or through your Google or Microsoft security settings. Revoking access stops all scanning immediately.

What we never do

We never sell your personal information, to anyone, ever.

We never read emails outside the school senders you approve.

We never use your emails, your children's details or your usage to advertise to you.

We never place tracking cookies, pop-ups or third-party advertising scripts in the app.

How long we keep things

Your nudges, children and settings are kept for as long as your account is active, so your term stays intact. When you delete a nudge, child or term, it is removed. If you would like your account and everything in it deleted, email us and we will remove it within 30 days.

Who else is involved

To run the service we rely on a small number of providers: a secure cloud host that stores your account data, Google and Microsoft (only when you connect those accounts, and then under their own terms), and the AI service described above. We do not share your data with anyone beyond what is needed to run Nudge Nest for you.

Nest Perks and affiliate links

The Nest Perks section is there because the app is free for families: when you buy something through a perk link, the retailer may pay us a small commission, at no extra cost to you. Perk links go directly to the retailer — we do not insert tracking cookies, and the retailer sees you as its own visitor. Your emails are never used to decide which perks appear.

Children's information

Nudge Nest is used by parents, not directly by children. A child's details are added by their own parent, kept to a minimum (a first name, a year group and a colour), shown only inside that family's account, and never shared or used for marketing. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children.

Cookies and sign-in

We use only the essential, private cookie/storage that keeps you signed in. There are no advertising cookies and no cross-site trackers. We do not run analytics that follows you elsewhere on the web.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or restrict how it is used, and you can withdraw permission for us to read your email at any time. Email hello@nudgenest.co.uk and we will help. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), though we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes to this policy

If anything about how we handle data changes, we will update this page and change the date below. Material changes will be flagged inside the app.
